Merlin Melby, 81
Merlin Melby, 81, a resident of Fargo, N.D., died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at his residence.
Memorial services will be Sunday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville. Visitation will be two hours prior to the memorial on Sunday.
Merlin John Melby was born April 21, 1931, to Hilma (Johnson) and Clarence Melby near Canby. He grew up and attended school in Canby and continued his education at St. Olaf College, graduating in 1955. Merlin had a calling into the ministry and attended Luther Seminary, graduating in 1959, the same year he married Marlys Anderson of Dwight, N.D. He served as a Lutheran minister until 1972. His family moved to Little Falls and owned Memory Lane Gift Store for 23 years. Upon retirement, Merlin and Marlys retired to the community of Barnesville in 1995.
Merlin is survived by his wife, Marlys of Fargo; three children, Eric (Jeni) Melby of Buffalo, Melanie (Jeff) Sorenson of Newfolden and Jason (Michelle) Melby of St. Cloud; and five grandchildren, Maegan, Dylan, Ethan, Connor and Grace.
