North Iowa swept the first two games of the North American Tier III Hockey League playoffs against the Minnesota Flying Aces, Friday – Saturday, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The host Bulls came away with a 3-1 win in the opening contest, fending off the Aces after Jared Sprink scored on the power play early in the third to make it a one-goal game.
Minnesota jumped to a 1-0 lead just 1:18 into the second game, as Sprink netted an unassisted goal.
North Iowa came back to even the score 30 seconds into the second period, but Patrick Kegley put the Aces back in front 2-1 on a power-play goal three minutes later.
However, North Iowa answered with the final two goals of the second, then tacked on three more in the third period to secure a 6-2 win and the 2-0 series lead.
