Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, with Chaplain Ruth Jeremiason-Jensen officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Irene (Thayer) LaPoint was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Morristown, to the late Charles B. and Lillian Thayer. She was united in marriage to Clarence LaPoint in 1948. The couple resided in Minneapolis and had one child, Marlene. Irene worked at Wexler Paper for many years until she went to work at Nabisco. Clarence and Irene moved to Hillman, MN on Sullivan Lake in 1979, Clarence passed away in May of 1987. Irene continued living on the lake until 1995, at that time she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law Marlene and Ted Waytashek. She enjoyed crafting, playing Dominos, watching television, and playing spider on the computer.
Left to cherish Irene’s memory are her daughter, Marlene (Ted) Waytashek of Brainerd; grandchildren, Karen Sikkink of Brainerd, Michelle Viehauser of Brainerd, Cheryl Kelly of Brainerd, Ted (Lorie) Waytashek of Fort Ripley, Robert (Renee) Waytashek, Linda (Ray) Swartout of Wichita, Kan., Mona (Stan) Murowski of Fort Myers, Fla., Jean (Mike) Stone of Wichita, Kan., and Sandy (Mark) Koering of Fort Ripley; 30 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence LaPoint; parents, Charles and Lillian Thayer; brothers, Dick Thayer, Kenneth Thayer, Stan Thayer, Robert Thayer, Norman Thayer, Charles A. Thayer; and great-grandson, Joshua Sikkink.
Casketbearers were Gary LaPoint, Roy LaPoint, Travis Waytashek, John Peifer, Al Mueller and Denny Thayer.
