Snowmobile trails on private lands, known as grant-in-aid trails, will close Monday. That’s when the lease agreements with the landowners end. Trails on public lands, such as the Soo Line Trail, will remain open.
Most trails in this part of the state are on private lands. Persons entering the private lands after April 1 will be subject to the trespass law, which could either be a misdemeanor or a gross misdemeanor charge, said Paul Kuske, conservation officer with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Trail grooming will also cease Monday on all trails that cross private lands (the closed trails), but may continue on some public trails, Kuske said.
