Coming off a third-place finish in the inaugural season of the Granite Ridge Conference (GRC), the Little Falls boys golf team returns all but one of its starters from a year ago.
Leading the pack of returning starters are a trio of seniors, Andrew Nooter, Michael Stumpf and Collin Gradin, along with sophomores Kyler Erdman, Landon Atkinson and Michael Orr and freshman Reed Hines.
“We are more than capable of competing with the top teams in the conference,” Little Falls head coach Joel Youngberg said. “Whether or not we are competing for the top spot in the conference will depend on how consistent we play in spots one through six.”
“If we play to the level that we have shown during some meets, we could make it to the second day of sections,” he said. “Scoring well enough on the first day of sections to make it to the second is the goal for this season.”
Seniors on this year’s team include Nooter, Stumpf, Gradin, Luke Majerle, Ben Newman and Rikky Waagen.
Jon Brill was the only graduate from last year’s team.
“I have high expectations this season and I know the players do as well,” Youngberg said. “With our third-place finish in conference last season and a poor showing at the section meet, there is a determination this year to show what we can do as a team.”
