Anglers Corner energizes Cushing with three new businesses

While Hilltop Sports, formerly in Lincoln, and Western Liquors have been open for months, a restaurant will round out the Anglers Corner complex when it opens Wednesday, May 1.

Owned by Bob Boyd, he has planned the businesses in Anglers Corner to be a one-stop shopping spot for families and sportsmen heading up north for time at the cabin, a week at a resort or a hunting trip.

“Hilltop Sports, owned by Mike Mrozek, sells bait and tackle, propane gas, docks and boat lifts and offers storage in the winter,” said Boyd.

Also available at Hilltop Sports are all fishing and hunting licenses. The business has a pontoon and fishing boat for rent, along with jet skis and swim rafts. In the winter, Hilltop Sports rents fish houses. It also services docks and boat lifts.

Western Liquors opened in December 2012, with a full line of beer and liquor at competitive prices. The store is open every day except Sundays until 10 p.m.

The restaurant, done in warm colors, will seat about 70 people with Boyd’s pride the Angus burger, homemade pizzas and a large variety of appetizers including riblets and shrimp.

The horseshoe bar seats 18 with a full line of drinks. The restaurant will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. The kitchen will be open for menu items until 10 p.m. and pizzas and appetizers will be available until closing every night.

Western-LiquorThe bar and restaurant has two big-screen televisions which will be tuned to the sports stations.

WiFi is available in the complex.

Boyd, a builder by trade, bought the property, formerly  Molitor’s and then the Elk Creek Saloon, a year ago. He tore down the old restaurant and kitchen and built completely new.

The back banquet room was retained and future plans for the space may include a second-hand/antique shop.

Also on Boyd’s resumé is Beager’s Barbecue, formerly the Lin Club and the Old Mill Restaurant in Lincoln, plus the Old Mill Restaurant in Urbank.
