obit-Burgardt-DDorothy Arlene Burgardt, a resident of Little Falls, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at her home in Little Falls.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Gary Hendrickson officiating. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
Dorothy was born March 19, 1926, in Hancock County, Iowa, to the late Herman and Caroline (Jesse) Nuehring. She grew up on a farm near Britt, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Britt High School in 1945. She taught school for one year and worked at Candy Kitchen until moving to Kansas City, Kan. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper at Commerce Trust Company until she married Clayton Burgardt, June 18, 1949. Dorothy and Clayton moved to Little Falls in 1952. She helped Clayton with the City Sanitary Service and the Burgardt Bus Service. She was a bookkeeper for the business, kept busy as a homemaker and mother of eight children, and was also a Shaklee distributor of health products. Dorothy was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls and also enjoyed being involved at the Little Falls Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, plants, flowers and loved collecting spoons, hummels, crystal and researching the family tree. She also loved traveling to Florida, Hawaii, Tonga Island and anywhere it was warm.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Donald (Susan) Burgardt of Sioux Falls, S.D., Gary (Beth) Burgardt of Little Falls, Gregg (Laurie) Burgardt of Little Falls, Brian (Kathy) Burgardt of Little Falls and Curtis Burgardt of Sauk Rapids; daughters, Bonnie (Saia) Kavapalu of South St. Paul and Cheryl Burgardt of South St. Paul; brother, Ronald (Lorraine) Nuehring of Little Falls; sisters, Mildred Nieman of Little Falls, Lois (Kenneth) Elvin of Jefferson, Texas and Janice (Ralph) Swanson of Inner Grove Heights; sister-in-law, Gerry Nuehring of Little Falls; and 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton Elder Burgardt; parents, Herman and Caroline; daughter, Diane Burgardt; brothers, Arthur (Ruth) Nuehring, Eugene (Ruby) Nuehring and Harold Nuehring.
