Dennis John Johnson, 62, Anoka, was charged with one felony count each of fifth degree possession of a controlled substance and fourth degree DWI by Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff.
While on routine patrol, a Royalton police officer observed a vehicle traveling at 52 miles per hour in a 40 mile-per-hour zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Johnson.
According to the criminal complaint, Johnson appeared nervous, stumbled over his words and would not make eye contact. After some questioning, Johnson allegedly handed the officer a pipe, admitting he had smoked methamphetamine about two hours earlier.
Johnson was arrested and taken to the Morrison County Jail.
The pipe later tested positive for methamphetamine.
If convicted, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.
