Pierz erased an early 3-0 deficit, but St. Cloud Cathedral took advantage of five errors to squeak by with a 5-4 win in the Pioneers’ season opener at the St. Cloud State Dome, Thursday.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Pierz got on the board for the first time this year with a three-run third.

Cathedral took the lead right back with a run in the bottom of the inning, then repeated the feat after Pierz tied the game back up in the fifth.

Senior Megan Boser opened the season with a 2-for-3 effort, doubling and driving in three runs.

Seniors Sara Schlegel and Brook Brausen each added two hits, with Brausen scoring twice, and sophomore Shelbie Boser went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.

Sophomore pitcher Taylre Boser limited Cathedral to two earned runs over six innings, striking out five.
