Softball: Upsala sweeps Swanville in opener

Upsala erased a late deficit in its final at bat in the opener, then held Swanville to one run in the nightcap to earn a season-opening 7-5, 4-1 home sweep, Tuesday.

Junior Katie Ripplinger went 2-for-4 in the opener for Upsala, with sophomores Mariah Prokott and Kristin Wuebkers picking up the wins pitching.

Eighth-grader Kiley Loven led Swanville with three hits in the first game, with senior Marissa Evans and juniors Ashley Maciej and Jackie Panek adding two apiece.

Junior pitcher Nikki Primus struck out 10 batters for the Bulldogs.

Swanville held a 13-8 hit advantage, but left the bases loaded on three occasions.
