Softball: Royalton slugs 33 hits in sweep over Eagle Valley

Royalton’s lineup showed little rust after an extra-long spring indoors, slugging 33 hits to take a pair of games from visiting Eagle Valley 21-8 and 11-6, Tuesday.

Sophomore Haley Olson and freshman Bethany Cimenski each collected three hits in the opener, with Olson driving in four runs and Cimenski scoring three times.

Junior Jacquline Nichols and freshman Nicole Popp both added a pair of extra-base hits, senior Kalee Petron went 2-for-3 with four runs and senior Hannah Fussy recorded three runs and three RBIs.

In the finale, freshman Kayla Eli went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs while also earning the win on the mound.

Fussy and junior Brandi Smekofske added two hits apiece and combined for five runs, with Popp and freshman Krista Kasella each knocking in two.
