Public will see, smell smoke as Camp Ripley conducts controlled burns

The Camp Ripley Fire Department will conduct controlled burns Monday – Friday, May 6 – 10, between noon – 8 p.m.

“During this time period the surrounding areas of Camp Ripley can expect to see and smell smoke,” said Staff Sgt. Anthony Housey of the Camp Ripley Public Affairs Office.

“The staff at Camp Ripley apologizes for this; however conducting the burns greatly reduces the chances for uncontrollable wildfires,” said Post Commander Col. Scott St. Sauver.

The burns are completed every spring before Camp Ripley begins its summer annual training season. The fires are started, monitored and controlled in accordance with the Department of Natural Resources and the Camp Ripley Fire Department.

Questions concerning the burns may be addresses to the Camp Ripley Public Affairs Office at (320) 616-3122.
