Mildred ‘Millie’ Olive (Girtz) Terhaar, 90

obit-TerhaarMildred “Millie” Olive (Girtz) Terhaar, a resident of Pierz, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully May 7, 2013, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Pierz. Friends may call from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Monday, at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. A Christian Mother’s rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. American Legion Auxiliary prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m., all on Sunday.

Millie was born Nov. 1, 1922, on a farm five miles southeast of Pierz. The fourth of 19 children born to Jacob and Rose (Medek) Girtz, Millie lived her entire life in the Pierz area. She married Severin Terhaar Sept. 10, 1946, and together were the parents of six children; Sharon (Jim) Balcom of Hudson, Wis., Kenneth (Mary Beth) Terhaar of New Berlin, Wis., Allen (Jean) Terhaar of Madison, Wis., Ruth (Charles) Weiss of Nome, Alaska, Cathy “Cate” (Ron) Knoll of Brainerd and Luke (Noma) Terhaar of Minneapolis.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Severin and son, Luke. She is survived by five children, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as 10 brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Joseph Church, Meadow Ponds or Harmony House in Pierz.
