Junior Bridget Bednar won two events and junior Gabriella Kroska topped the field in another as the Pierz girls finished as runners-up behind defending state champion Esko at Tuesday’s Section 7A true team meet in Pierz.
Bednar narrowly edged out senior teammate Alyssa Boser to win the 100-meter hurdles in 18.34 seconds in addition to taking first in the high jump (5-feet).
Kroska delivered the top leap in the long jump of 14-feet, 3.5-inches) and added a fourth-place sprint in the 400 (1:06.82)
Boser secured second place in the 100 hurdles (18.38) and the shot put (32-feet, 9-inches) and took fourth in the 300 hurdles (52.47) for the Pioneers.
Adding third-place finishes were sophomore Raychel Virnig in the shot put (30-feet, 11-inches), the 4×200 relay team (2:00.38) and the 4×400 relay team (4:32.93).
Junior Tyler Millner was the top performer for Pierz on the boys side, leading the Pioneers to fourth by taking first in the 300 hurdles (42.79) and second in the 100 (12.04) and the 200 (24.26).
Producing third-place efforts were the 4×100 relay team (48.68) and sophomore Robbie Skiba in the 300 hurdles (43.91), with fourth-place performances turned in by senior Jon Fuhrman in the 3,200 (11:06.04) and Skiba in the 110 hurdles (17.91) and long jump (18-feet, 7.75-inches).
Millner wins 300 hurdles
at Pillager meet
Millner secured the top spot in the 300 hurdles (43.39), second in the 100 (11.94) and third in the 200 (24.42) to lead the Pierz boys to fifth place at Pillager, May 2.
Also winning for the Pioneers was the 4×800 relay team (9:24.58)
Boser took second in the shot put (31-feet, 8-inches) and Bednar was the runner-up in the high jump (5-feet) to guide the Pioneers girls to sixth.
