Prairie Baseball: Royalton’s Stang stings Isle

Junior Cade Stang doubled twice, scored two runs, collected three RBIs and threw a one-hit shutout as Royalton slammed visiting Isle 12-0, Monday.

Helping the Royals in the rout were senior Brad Woidyla, who reached base three times, and sophomore Brady Moulzolf and eighth-grader Michael Petron, who each had a hit and combined to score five runs.

LPGE outlasts Royalton in 16-12 slugfest 

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE) and visiting Royalton each raked 17 hits in Tuesday’s Prairie Conference tilt, with LPGE sliding past the Royals 16-12.

Senior Matt Silbernick, freshman Parker Brezinka, Moulzolf and Stang led the offensive outburst for Royalton, each collecting three hits and combining for six doubles.

Brezinka collected four RBIs, Silbernick had three runs and two RBIs and Stang added two runs.

Sophomore Jordon Smieja also registered two hits and an RBI and sophomore Matt Fountain crossed the plate twice.

Browerville hangs on in finale to complete sweep over Royals

After taking the first game 8-3, visiting Browerville held on for a 4-3 victory in the second contest to sweep Royalton, May 10.

Silbernick went 3-for-4 with an RBI and senior Lucas Snyder and Moulzolf added two hits apiece in the opening game, with Moulzolf going 1-for-4 with two runs in the finale.

Lampert’s tie-breaking blast gives USA win in extras

Junior Eric Lampert hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the 10th inning to propel Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) to a 5-4, 7-1 sweep at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE), May 10.

USA tied the opener in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by senior Colten Kruzel, with the score holding at 4-4 until Lampert’s blast.

Lampert and junior Christian Pekarek each had three hits in the game, senior Alec Griffith went 2-for-4 and senior Brock Cichon went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and four walks.

Cichon also dominated the Thunder in relief, throwing 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out seven to pick up the win.

The Patriots had much less difficulty in game two, rolling behind a combined one-hit effort from seniors Nick Frieler and Eric Frieler, with Nick Frieler also collecting two hits and two RBIs at the plate.

 

USA can’t bring in tying run as Browerville takes pair

USA put the potential tying run on first base in the final at bat of its opener, but couldn’t bring him around as it dropped a 6-4, 12-3 doubleheader at Browerville, Monday.

Seven different players collected the Patriots’ hits in the opener, with senior Andy Nelson going 2-for-2 with a run in game two.
