Section 5A Softball: Top-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins erases early Swanville lead

Swanville threatened to pull off a stunning upset in Monday’s start of Section 5A action, jumping on top-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins for three runs in the top of the first inning.

But after maintaining a 3-0 edge through the middle of the third, the host Eagles broke through with six runs in the third and three more in the fourth en route to a 13-3 victory.

Swanville outhit Eden Valley-Watkins 9-8 in the game, led by senior Marissa Evans and junior Nikki Primus with two apiece, but the Eagles capitalized on the opportunities they did have.

Swanville finished the season with a record of 0-13.

Seniors on this year’s team included Schultz, Evans, Barthel and Chloee Larson.
