A free event for expecting parents and parents of children up to three years of age has been planned for Thursday, June 6 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The evening will focus on healthy pregnancies, healthy babies and healthy families.

The non-alcoholic event will be held at the Little Falls Ballroom. Tri-County Community Action (TCC) will host the event.

A grant from the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) along with several community businesses and individuals support and help sponsor the event.

Information provided by MOFAS explains that its  mission is to “eliminate disability caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy and to improve the quality of life for those living with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders throughout Minnesota.”

TCC Family and Community Partnership Coordinator Sandy Stavig said, “Give your child a head start to a healthy life. Join us on June 6 to learn how.”

In 2012, said Stavig, 97 people attended the Baby Expo. This year they are planning on 100 -125 attending. “We have already received some registrations,” said Stavig

Participants will receive information about abstaining from alcohol during pregnancy and nursing. Infants and nursing babies are welcome to attend.

“We will show you how you can still enjoy an evening out with friends” said Dina Wuellner, TCC eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment and attendance coordinator.

Speakers will include a representative from MOFAS and a local nurse/pediatrician will hold a question and answer session.

There will be food, games, prizes and projects. Approximately 20 vendors will be in attendance to provide information about local resources for parenting, health and early childhood development. The vendors are strictly there to provide information. They will not be selling their products at the expo.

Preregistration is required, with a deadline of June 3. The first 100 preregistered guests will receive a goodie bag. To register call (320) 632-3691 or e-mail: sandy.stavig@tccac tion.com.
