Owen Haeg, 82

obit-HaegOwen Haeg, a resident of Onamia, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013.

A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia, with Father Jude Verley, OSC officiating. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Onamia Knights of Columbus or Onamia Holy Cross Church.

Owen grew up in Foreston, left home to serve in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Okinawa and Greenland. When he returned he joined Local No. 49, Union of Operating Engineers, was employed by Palda and Son’s Construction, became a superintendent and eventually vice president of the company where he worked his entire career. Owen married LaFay (Mohler) and they resided in Onamia most of their married life with Owen commuting to St. Paul. He was well known in the community; an active long time member of Holy Cross Parish, former Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, and one of the founding fathers and former commander of the Onamia Vets Club. He worked many spaghetti, chicken and smelt dinners as well as booyas. A few years ago Owen had the opportunity to visit family in Ireland and see where his Irish roots came from. Owen was always ready to drop a line to catch some pan fish, play a game of cribbage, tell you a joke or a story and hear one of yours.

Owen is survived by his daughter Jean (Jim) Kreutter and grandchildren, Molly and Michael; brothers Mark (Mary), Leroy, Clair (Chuckie); favorite sister Pat (Dewey) Wraalstad; many nieces; nephews; cousins and great friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaFay; parents, Clem and Julia; brother, Dennis; and sister-in-law, Carolyn.
