Playing on the road against a higher seed team, Royalton didn’t cave in after digging a 6-1 hole through four innings at Browerville, May 23.

The Royals’ comeback bid simply ran out of time, as the Tigers held on for a 7-6 victory to advance in the Section 5A tournament.

Senior Hannah Fussy  and freshman Nicole Popp each scored twice and drove in a run for the Royals, with junior Brandi Smekofske and sophomore Haley Olson also driving home runs.

Royalton finished the season with a record of 6-9, splitting the Prairie Conference South Division title with Upsala, which won its first-ever conference championship.

Kalee Petron and Fussy were the lone seniors on this year’s team.
