Persistent rain cut the second day of the Section 6AA golf tournament in Sartell from 18 holes to nine, hampering any chance for Pierz senior Dustin Herold or Little Falls sophomore Landon Atkinson to make a late comeback.
Herold was the final golfer to make the cut on Monday’s first day, shooting a round of 82, with Atkinson posting an 80.
Herold came out and shot a 40 on his first nine holes Tuesday, but the weather forced a premature end to competition with the Pioneers standout five strokes away from qualifying for state.
Atkinson turned in a 47 on the final day of action, finishing with a 127.
Little Falls finished 10th as a team in the tournament, with Atkinson trailed by sophomores Michael Orr (88) and Kyler Erdman (89), eighth-grader Tyler Moore (92), sophomore Josh DeCann (94) and senior Andrew Nooter (95).
Pierz closed in 13th place, with Herold followed by sophomore Ethan Lochner (97), juniors Matt Athman (98) and Evan Woitalla (98), sophomore Josh Rocheleau (99) and eighth-grader Nathan Poster (128).
In the girls competition, Pierz took 13th place, led by sophomore Jessica Hawks, who only missed Monday’s cut by two shots with a 93.
Senior Katie Kowalzek finished close behind Hawks with a 97, followed by eighth-grader Brittany Talberg (134) and sophomore Sam Smith (138).
