Section 6AA Baseball: Sauk Centre ends Pierz’ playoff run

Sauk Centre put Pierz in an early hole it couldn’t recover from, defeating the Pioneers 9-0 in a Section 6AA elimination game at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud, Monday.

The Mainstreeters picked up an early run in the first inning, then three more in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth to pull away with the win.

“Sauk Centre just outplayed us today,” Pierz head coach Dan Saehr said. “I am very proud of the kids for having a great season. We were led by a great group of seniors.”

Junior Chris Ortman broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fifth, then added a second hit in the seventh.

Senior Ben Boser didn’t allow an earned run in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Pierz finished the season with a record of 12-9, earning a share of the Central Minnesota Conference championship.

Seniors on this year’s team included Ben Boser, Brad Meyer, Nick Lochner, Jon Fuhrman, Brady Dorn, Cody Nordmann, Cody Weiss and Troy Stich.
