Virnig sentenced to 42 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm

On Wednesday,  Morrison County District Court Judge Douglas P. Anderson sentenced  Shannon David Virnig to serve 42 months in prison after being convicted of felon in possession of a firearm

Virnig, 41, Little Falls, was found hunting on Nov. 3, 2012, in Buh Township by a conservation officer. Virnig had been convicted of a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree in October 2011, and was still on probation for that crime.  That felony conviction deprived Virnig of the right to possess a firearm.

Virnig pleaded guilty to the firearm possession charge April 17.
