Victory League: Poser goes all 18 as Pierz Brewers outlast Royalton

Starting pitcher Mike Poser threw the equivalent of two complete games as the Pierz Brewers endured 18 innings to edge host Royalton 6-5, Sunday.

Pierz finally pushed across the game-winning run in the top of the 18th, as Greg Pohlkamp singled, advanced to second on a bunt and scored on a base hit by Alvin Kimman.

Poser scattered 15 hits, striking out seven to pick up the win.

Aaron Trutwin went 5-for-8 for Royalton.

Upsala 12, Lastrup 0

Upsala took apart host Lastrup 12-0 behind a three-hit shutout from Matt Swanson and a grand slam by Joe Bartkowicz.

Brock Cichon and Brandon Welinski each added two hits and two RBIs.

Sobieski 12, Pierz Bulldogs 1

Sobieski opened a perfect weekend with a 20-hit effort to take down the host Pierz Bulldogs 12-1.

Riley Hirsch led the offensive attack with a 4-for-4 game, scoring three times.

Jon Czech went 3-for-3, Tyler Jendro drove in four runs, Beau Hanowski reached base five times and Joe Rydeen went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Andrew Lange struck out seven over five innings of work to record the win.

Jon Hansen reached base twice and scored the Bulldogs’ lone run, with Mike Anderson tossing three innings of shutout relief.

 

Sobieski 3, Randall 0

Beau Hanowski and Nate Olson combined on a five-hit shutout as Sobieski won 3-0 at Randall.

Andrew Gurbada doubled and scored for Sobieski, with Eric Thilquist doubling for the Cubs.

Tyler Jendro went 3-for-3 with a homer and three runs scored and threw a four-hit shutout to lead Sobieski over visiting Upsala 10-0.

Jon Czech added a grand slam and Collin Eckman knocked in two runs for the Skis.

 

Buckman 6, Royalton 3

Royalton seized an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, but Buckman scored the final six runs to upend the visiting Riverdogs 6-3 behind a complete-game effort from Shawn Lanners.

Jeremy Payne went 3-for-4 for Buckman, with Aaron Trutwin and Nate Benusa each collecting two hits for Royalton.

 

Buckman 11, Randall 1

Buckman jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back, defeating visiting Randall 11-1.

Mark Kahl scattered nine hits to earn the complete-game win on the mound, aided at the plate by multi-hit games from Ben Boser, Jeremy Payne and Corey Egan.

Nick Prozinski homered to account for the Cubs’ only run.

 

Lastrup 8, Harding 1

Chad Weiss went the distance on the mound and recorded two hits at the plate to lead visiting Lastrup past Harding 8-1.

Jason Sadlovsky added a homer as 10 different Lakers picked up hits.

Brad Meyer doubled and scored a run for Harding.

 

Fort Ripley 6, Cuyuna 3

Logan Kalis fanned 11 batters in a three-hitter as Fort Ripley topped visiting Cuyuna Range 6-3.

Jason Sather doubled twice and scored for Fort Ripley.

 

St. Mathias 7, Cuyuna 3

Jake Francis went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead host St. Mathias over Cuyuna Range 7-3.

John Holder homered and knocked in two runs for Cuyuna Range.

 

St. Stephen 2, St. Wendel 0

St. Stephen shut out host St. Wendel 2-0 behind seven scoreless innings from Paul Schumer, adding onto its lead in the South Division.

Adam Tschumperlin went 4-for-5 for St. Stephen.

 

Holdingford 3, Fort Ripley 2

Holdingford only had two hits, but used a 10-strikeout effort from starter Derek Thielen to knock off visiting Fort Ripley 3-2.

Brent Gerads reached base three times and scored twice for Holdingford, with Bill Sather and Ray Austin each going 2-for-4 for the Rebels.

 

Opole 13, Cuyuna Range 3

Keaton Gustin went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs as host Opole took apart Cuyuna Range 13-3.

Max Posch added three hits and drove in four.

 

St. Wendel 11, St. Mathias 8

Host St. Wendel emerged on top 11-8 in a high-scoring contest against St. Mathias.

Lee Maciej collected four hits for St. Wendel, with Blake Thiesse doubling twice for St. Mathias.

 

Freeport 2, Nisswa 0

Ben Bruggeman worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to preserve a 2-0 shutout for Freeport over visiting Nisswa, with the two teams combining for only five hits.
