VFW Baseball: Little Falls splits pair of doubleheaders

The Little Falls VFW baseball team rebounded after dropping the opener twice to split a pair of doubleheaders this week, running its record to 8-3.

 

Brainerd doubleheader

Visiting Little Falls opened the week with its second doubleheader against Brainerd in less than a week, dropping the first game 3-0 before taking the finale 9-0.

Chris Reller earned the complete-game victory in the second contest, striking out 10 in the five-hitter.

Daniel Marod, Brady Muncy and Reller all collected two hits.

St. Cloud West doubleheader

Little Falls started quickly against visiting St. Cloud West, Tuesday, loading the bases and scoring a run in the first, but couldn’t strike again in a 2-1 opening defeat.

Thomas Miller went 2-for-4 and scored Little Falls’ lone run.

Following a close pitchers’ duel, the second game turned into a slug fest, with Little Falls scoring the final eight runs to emerge on top 13-12.

Jacob Fasching went 3-for-4, with Hunter Kleinschmidt and Tyler Athmann each adding two hits.

Brady Muncy recorded the win in relief, striking out the only batter he faced in the top of the fifth before Little Falls rallied in the bottom half for the walk-off win.
