Sex offender community notification meeting planned in Flensburg

A level 3 sex offender community notification meeting will be held at the Flensburg Community Center, located off of Main Street, across from the ball fields in the city of Flensburg. The meeting begins at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 and will be hosted by the Minnesota Department of Corrections and the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office.

Jerry Ferrier Jr., a level 3 sex offender, will be moving into a residence off 160th Street in Culdrum Township, Morrison County. This individual has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct or another offense that requires registration with law enforcement.

Since 1991, Minnesota law requires individuals convicted of a felony sex crime to register their addresses with local law enforcement. In 1996, the Minnesota Legislature passed the Community Notification Act in 1996, which gave law enforcement the responsibility to inform the public about where sex offenders are living.

This offender is not wanted by the police at this time and has served the sentence imposed on him by the court. This notification is not intended to increase fear in the community, but rather to raise awareness. Sheriff Michel Wetzel said his office believes that “An informed public is a safer public.”
