VFW Baseball: Little Falls walks off twice in sweep

Trailing 2-1 twice heading into its final at bat, the Little Falls VFW baseball team came up with a pair of runs each time, stunning Becker 3-2, 3-2 in a home doubleheader sweep, Monday.

In the bottom of the seventh in game one, Little Falls’ first two batters were retired before Kyle Kabanuk kept the game alive with a double.

Thomas Miller then delivered a game-tying single to bring home Kabanuk, advancing to second base on the throw to the plate, before scoring the winning run on a walk-off double by Jeremy Klein.

Klein finished 3-for-4, with Adam Hallberg going the distance on the mound to record the win.

After a squeeze bunt by Daniel Marod plated Thomas Miller to give Little Falls a 1-0 lead in game two, Becker bounced back to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Marod doubled home Brady Muncy with one out to tie the game, then scored on a bases-loaded walk by Alec Stark to cap the comeback.

Braden Backowski tossed a complete-game five-hitter to pick up the win and also finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

Jacob Fasching added a double.

Sauk Rapids doubleheader

Little Falls split a home doubleheader against Sauk Rapids, June 27, winning the opener 11-1 before being shut out 3-0 in game two.

Little Falls gave up the opening run in the first game before scoring 11 unanswered to close the contest.

Thomas Miller fanned 10 over six innings to record the win, also going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the third inning.

Chris Reller and Klein each added two hits and Thomas Bell doubled.

Tyler Athmann collected two hits, Marod hit a triple and Logan Kapphahn doubled in the second game.
