A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 18, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, with Father David Maciej officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls.
Eleanor (Hayes) Tretter was born July 27, 1937, in Platte Township, Morrison County, to the late Lester and Josephine (Orzechowski) Hayes. She grew up in Platte Township and attended country school. Eleanor graduated from Little Falls High School in 1956 and after high school worked for Waltman Optical and B & L Optical in St. Paul. She was united in marriage to Elmer O. Tretter, Oct. 26, 1963, in Lastrup. The couple made their home north of Pierz where she worked side by side with Elmer on the dairy farm and as co-owner of Elmer Tretter Construction. They retired for the last time, built a house and moved into the city of Pierz in the fall of 2005. In 2007, Eleanor became a resident of Meadow Ponds where she spent many happy years. Eleanor and Elmer were charter members of the Minnesota Two Cylinder John Deere Club. She spent many years as a leader of the Platte Partridges 4-H Club. Eleanor was also a member of the Platte Homemakers Club, Pierz American Legion Auxiliary Post #341 and the Little Falls VFW Auxiliary Post #1112.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Donna (Steven) Slettom of Little Falls, Valerie Rudolph of Grand Rapids and Julie (James) Stangl of Little Falls,; grandchildren, Joey, Luke, Nathan (Alison) Kozulla, Megan Slettom, Stephanie, Alicia, Ryan (Cassie) Rudolph, Joshua (Samantha) Stangl and Jessica (Brian) Kummet; great-grandson, Mason and three great-granddaughters, Halie, Hayvn and Skyler; siblings, Marcel (Jean) Hayes, Marvin (Ellen) Tretter, Gerald (Cindy) Hayes, all of Pierz, Rhynard “Butch” (Esther) Hayes of North Pole, Alaska and Karen (Robert) Foss of St. Cloud.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer June 10, 2007; parents, Lester and Josephine Hayes; sister, Sharon Hayes and brother, Lyle Hayes.
Pallbearers were Luke Kozulla, Nathan Kozulla, Joshua Stangl, Jerry Hayes, Russell Tretter and Corey Tretter.
