VFW Baseball: Hallberg, Miller post shutouts as Little Falls advances in sub-district playoffs

Little Falls starting pitcher Thomas Miller turned in a five-hit shutout to complete a sweep for the VFW team in the sub-district playoffs over visiting St. Cloud West, Thursday. Little Falls will now take part in next week’s district tournament.

Adam Hallberg and Thomas Miller pitched back-to-back shutouts as the Little Falls VFW baseball team swept visiting St. Cloud West (Tech) 7-0, 6-0 in Thursday’s sub-district playoffs.

In the opening game of the best-of-three series, Little Falls struck first in the third inning as Jeremy Klein singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Ben Witt.

Miller followed with a two-run triple in the fourth before Little Falls sealed the game with four runs in the fifth.

Hallberg finished with a four-hitter on the mound and collected three hits at the plate.

The second game was a similar story, as Little Falls provided an early cushion for Miller with a three-run first.

Miller and Witt each had two hits, with Miller tossing a five-hitter.

Little Falls will now move on to the district tournament Tuesday – Thursday in Brainerd.
