Upsala School Board approves cement work

Bids for cement removal and replacement in two areas outside Upsala School were approved by the Board, Wednesday.

B and K Masonry and Concrete of Sauk Rapids submitted a proposal to replace 853 square feet of concrete sidewalk on a time and materials cost basis.

“Sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and hire someone that way,” said Supt. Gery Arndt.

Lange Trenching of Avon submitted a quote for removal and disposal of concrete sidewalk for $2,164.

“B and K does not have the equipment to remove the existing sidewalk, so they lined up Lange to do it,” Arndt said. “Lange’s quote might be low because there is more work to be done than we originally planned.”

The original job included an area outside the commons, where a manhole was not situated correctly and the curb was higher than the sidewalk, posing a tripping hazard.

“Some sidewalks have shifted at the opposite side of the building, and the slab in front of the east elementary doors has cracked,” said Dean Peterson, Board president. “That area is about 100 square feet.”
