Irene Armstrong, a resident of Little Falls, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Fr. Joseph Herzing officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls.
Irene Helen Petron was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Royalton, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Janista) Petron. She grew up in Royalton where she attended school through the tenth grade. She was united in marriage to Earl Armstrong July 4, 1941, in Minneapolis. The couple owned and operated the Darling Store from 1953 to 1975. Irene was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, the Christian Mothers and the Little Falls American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, fishing, hunting and had a green thumb raising any kind of plant or flower.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Earl of Little Falls; children, John Armstrong of Little Falls and Mary Whalen of Brainerd; sister, Rose Burt of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Hannah Whalen, Claire Whalen, Beth Armstrong, Christine Hagman and John Armstrong and two great-grandchildren, Natalie Hagman and Mackenzie Armstrong.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Marie Petron, Marcella Rudek, Adelaide Armstrong, Roman Petron, George Petron, Oliver Petron and Alphonse Petron.
