On June 23, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a body had been located on a small minimum maintenance road near the city of Harding.
Responding deputies found 74-year-old Thomas Burkard lying on the road, deceased. Burkard’s vehicle was later found stuck some distance away.
Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said foul play was not suspected, yet Burkard’s body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the incident.
On Aug. 8, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office did rule Burkard’s death was natural and that no foul play was involved. Wetzel said, “Several people were interviewed in regard to this incident, and we simply wanted to let those in the neighborhood know that no foul play was involved in Burkard’s death.”
