Girls Tennis: Pierz singles out Little Falls in season opener

Pierz took all of the singles matches, while Little Falls swept the doubles.

In the end, the one extra singles match-up spelled the difference as the host Pioneers edged the Flyers 4-3 as the two squads opened their seasons, Aug. 16.

Pierz was powered by four straight-set victories in singles play, including senior Kiah Marschel at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1) and juniors Kelsey Moulzolf at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Beth Oldakowski at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4) and Nikki Hoheisel at No. 4 (6-1, 7-6[4]).

In doubles action, Little Falls earned wins from juniors Katelyn Kanieski and Mikayla Gottwalt at No. 1 (3-6, 6-4, 7-5), junior Lindsey Schneider and eighth-grader Grace Shulte at No. 2 (4-6, 6-3, 7-4) and juniors Rachel Veilette and Rachel Reis at No. 3 (6-3, 7-6[2]).

Pequot Lakes swept both Pierz and Little Falls 7-0 in the other matches of the triangular.
