Martha Shuman, of Little Falls, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus, with Fr. John Odero officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Martha F. (Opatz) Shuman was born July 6, 1920, in Brockway Township, Stearns County near Opole, to the late Thomas and Katherine (Oldakowski) Opatz. She grew up in Opole, and attended District # 12 country school. Martha worked as a cook for Holdingford High School and St. John’s University for several years. She also worked for Fingerhut in St. Cloud for a few years. Martha enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She enjoyed traveling to see family and friends. She was a caregiver for her daughter, Patsy Shuman. Martha was a faithful member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus and was active with Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Bowlus American Legion Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert “Bob” Shuman of Eden Prairie, Edward “Ed” (Cathy) Shuman of Monticello and Patsy Shuman of Little Falls; siblings, Alois (Dolores) Opatz of Iowa, Edwin (Carol) Opatz of Opole, Beanie (Joe) Gerlach of Forest Lake and Delphine (Don) Gralish of Chisago City; six grandchildren, Greg, Jeffrey, Christopher, Jenny, Amanda and Melissa; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Katherine Opatz; sister, Rose Miller; brother, Peter Opatz.
Martha’s family would like to say a special thank you to the Staff of St. Otto’s Care Center for the loving care given to Martha.
