The Little Falls girls soccer team has been young for awhile.
But although the Flyers are still reliant on youth, those players have now had a chance to gain experience at the varsity level, experience that has the program ready to be competitive in the Granite Ridge Conference.
“Although we are still a very young varsity team, we are working to improve on last year’s record and be competitive in every game,” head coach Marc Fritz said. “We should be able to compete with everyone in the conference.”
Leading Little Falls will be a defensive unit stabilized by multi-year senior starters Rachelle LeBlanc and Katie Yorek, as well as juniors Alicia Gapinski and Katelyn Staab.
Offensively, the Flyers will look to sophomore striker Jordan Schuett and freshmen midfielders Mikel Vacek and Chelsea Moran, with junior Scottijo Meyer and freshman Lauren Thielman returning as goaltenders.
Looking to play more significant roles as well will be seniors Kirsten Welinski (defense) and Danielle Moran (midfield), juniors Marissa Virnig (midfield) and Kristin Stewart (keeper), sophomore Ellie Riitters (midfield) and freshman Kia Friel (striker).
Seniors on this year’s team include LeBlanc, Welinski, Yorek, Brianna Opatz, Taylor Kunkel and Danielle Moran.
Little Falls was scheduled to open the season at home against Bemidji, Friday.
