There have been flashes of brilliance.
A great dig here, a powerful kill there.
Now, with all but two players returning, the Royalton volleyball team is looking to put it all together and compete with the top teams in the Prairie Conference.
“Having most of the starters return this season, I’m expecting to be more competitive and show more consistency than we have in the past,” head coach Trisha Spencer said. “The energy has been great and they seem to be focused on a larger goal than just showing up to play.”
With only Kalee Petron and Gabby Dupre graduating from last year’s roster, the Royals will enjoy the benefits of having many players coming back with varsity experience.
Leading them will be junior All-Prairie Conference setter Haley Olson and senior honorable mention middle hitter Emily Fussy.
Joining Olson and Fussy with starting time from a year ago will be seniors Katelyn Kasella (left hitter) and Courtney Popp (right hitter) and juniors Hayley Gottwalt (right hitter), Abby Duevel (left hitter) and Jenna Skajewski (libero).
Also expected to compete for playing time will be sophomores Kayla Eli (defensive specialist) and Olivia Gall (middle/right hitter) and freshman Brandi Kloss (middle hitter).
Royalton opens the season at Braham, Tuesday.
