The Swanville volleyball team returns three of six starters as it sets out to try and move up from last year’s fourth-place Prairie Conference finish.

Seniors Nikki Primus (middle hitter/outside hitter) and Ashley Maciej (libero) and junior Danica Hanson (setter) return as starters for a Swanville squad with increased expectations this fall.

“We are looking to set the bar higher this year and really push for a solid unit the entire season and maintain successful progress throughout the season as well, so it will carry into our postseason play,” head coach Kerie Thoma said.

Looking to step into the three vacant starting spots will be seniors Danielle Sutton (outside hitter) and Amanda Rieffer (middle hitter/right-side hitter), juniors Ashlie Kaun (middle hitter) and Simone Grittner (defensive specialist) and sophomores Rachel Evans (outside hitter) and Haileigh Sales (setter).

“(We’ll look to) key in our weaknesses early season and turn those into our strengths, as well as capitalize on our strengths we have now going into our season,” Thoma said. “(I’m) looking forward to working with this group of girls due to their hard work ethic and many different senses of humor.”

Swanville opens its season at Isle, Tuesday.
