Elsie Holtz Wittwer, 88

obit-Wittwer-Elsie-obituary-photoElsie Ida Holz Wittwer, passed away peacefully Sunday evening Aug. 25, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Brainerd.

Services will be held at Friday, Aug. 30, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

She was born Dec. 24, 1924, to Fred C. and Elizabeth Kriefall Holz in Darling Township, Little Falls. She attended the one-room school house in Darling Township until nearing high school, when she moved into Little Falls to achieve her dream of a high school diploma. On Oct. 12, 1945, she married Glenn Wittwer, her lifetime partner of 64 years. From the marriage with her beloved husband, they had four children, Janet Wittwer Dryburgh (Wayne), Linda Wittwer Zappa (Richard) and Bradley Wittwer of Brainerd and Kevin Wittwer (Gretchen) of Pequot Lakes. Elsie and Glenn, along with their children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren enjoyed fishing amd camping in Canada, hunting at the family deer shack up north. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles along with gardening and feeding her hummingbirds. She loved to travel with her daughter, Linda to see the grandchildren that lived out of state. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving family. Elsie was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years, setting up the television service for the patients. She and dad were lifetime members of the Zion Lutheran Church of Brainerd. For 33 years she was a valued employee at Sears Roebuck and Company, retiring as the service manager.

She is survived by her four children, Janet, Linda, Bradley and Kevin.

Elsie was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Beth Dryburgh Killian and survived by 10 grandchildren, Lori Dryburgh Smith, Steven Dryburgh, Kimberli Ashley Hair, Tarcy Wittwer Hansen, Alisha Wittwer Ogren, Alvin Carey, Corbin Ashley, Laura Wittwer, Tyler Wittwer, Adam Wittwer. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn; granddaughter, Lisa and her brother Art.
