Philip R. Sjoberg, 87

obit-Sjoberg-PhilipPhilip R. Sjoberg, a resident of Little Falls, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 26 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, with Father Timothy Wenzel officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery

Philip R. Sjoberg was born May 22, 1926, in Grand Marais, to the late Carl and Della (Broker) Sjoberg. Philip grew up in Grand Marais with his five siblings. He attended Cook County School in Grand Marias and graduated with the class of 1940. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He served from 1940 until 1944 with the Seabees. Philip was united to Dorothy Tiemann Aug. 25, 1950, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton. He worked construction and was a heavy equipment operator for several years. Philip and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and lived in several areas during their married life. He enjoyed listening to country music, inventing new things, gold prospecting and actually found gold in Arizona.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years Dorothy Sjoberg; children, Diane (Cletus) Novitzki of Hackensack, Karen Powell of Royalton, Gail (Darrell) Holm of Royalton, Karl (Jo Zimny) Sjoberg of Royalton, and Mark (Mary Allord) Sjoberg of Royalton; grandchildren, Barry, Brian and Jo Novitzki, Jessie Suska, Travis Holm, Mandy Decker, Jake and Sara Sjoberg, Leah Bennett, Corey Sjoberg, Taylor Sjoberg and Kayla Sjoberg; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Della Sjoberg; siblings, Mary Ridgeway, Marcine Franklin, Paul Sjoberg, John Sjoberg, Alex Sjoberg and infant siblings, Peter and Carline Sjoberg.
