Pierz swept through three doubles matches to beat visiting Wadena-Deer Creek (WDC), and the lightning, Thursday.

Before inclement weather stopped play with the No. 1 singles match tied in a third-set tiebreak, the Pioneers rolled in doubles action to net the win.

The top Pierz team of senior Steph Brill and junior Shelbie Boser won 6-1, 6-4, the No. 2 doubles team of senior Emily Okroi and junior Beth Oldakowski won 6-1, 6-3 and the No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Noelle Reuck and Alivia Leidenfrost won 6-0, 6-3.

Freshman Hannah Andrea provided the only singles win Pierz required 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot, with senior Kiah Marschel tied 4-6, 6-3, 6-6 at No. 1 singles when play was halted.

 

C-I, Pine City top Pierz in tri

Pierz split six doubles matches on the day, but fell 5-2 against Pine City and Crosby-Ironton in a home tri, Aug. 22.

Brill and Boser won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and Oldakowski and Okroi prevailed 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles against Crosby-Ironton.

Versus Pine City, junior Kelsey Moulzolf won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, with Brill and Boser winning their second match of the day 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

 

Pierz takes one at Aitkin quad

Pierz defeated Mora (5-2) while falling against Aitkin (5-2) and Crosby-Ironton (7-0) at the Aitkin quad, Aug. 23.

Pierz was propelled to a win over Mora via a dominating performance from its quartet of singles players, earning wins from Marschel at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2), Moulzolf at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2), junior Nikki Hoheisel at No. 3 singles (6-3, 7-5) and Andrea at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-3).

Reuck and Leidenfrost added a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Against Aitkin, Andrea came out on top 6-2, 4-6, 7-4 at No. 4 singles and junior Alysia Przybilla and Reuck won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

 

Pierz rips Parkers Prairie, falls to Osakis

Pierz split a pair of matches at Monday’s Osakis tri, including a 6-1 win over Parkers Prairie.

In the win, Moulzolf (6-0, 6-0), Hoheisel (6-1, 6-0) and Andrea (6-0, 6-1) rolled in singles play, with Brill and Boser (6-0, 7-5), Okroi and Oldakowski (6-3, 6-0) and sophomore Laura Athman and Przybilla (6-0, 6-1) combining for victories in doubles action.

Second-ranked Osakis shut out Pierz 7-0 in the other match of the tri.

 

Thunder clip Flyers by one

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala-Swanville Area (LPGE/USA) took three out of four singles matches, then squeezed out the lone doubles win it needed from its top duo to edge Little Falls 4-3, Aug. 23.

Sophomore McKenzie Barth added a key win at No. 3 singles, pulling out a close first set 7-5 before breezing in the second set 6-1.

Junior Lindsey Schneider and sophomore Elizabeth Kula combined for a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles for the Flyers, juniors Rachel Veillette and Rachel Reis won 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 3 doubles and eighth-grader Grace Schulte sailed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

In the other two matches of its home quad, LPGE/USA dropped a 7-0 match to Osakis and lost 5-2 against Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Barth earned her second win of the day for the Thunder at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2 versus Benson.

Little Falls also fell 7-0 to Osakis and 6-1 against Benson, with the No. 3 doubles team of Veillette and Reis battling to a 6-3, 4-6, 8-6 victory.

 

Thunder topple Morris 5-2, drop three at Park Rapids

Barth pulled out a lengthy 6-7 (0), 6-1, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles as LPGE/USA defeated visiting Morris, Monday.

The following day, LPGE/USA traveled to the Park Rapids quad, falling against Park Rapids (5-2), Pequot Lakes (6-1) and Crookston (6-1).
