As great as the start was, the end was even better.
After opening a 3-0 lead midway through the first half, Little Falls watched visiting Hutchinson rally to tie the score with only three minutes remaining on a hat trick by junior Rebecca Rancour, Aug. 29.
However, with the game looking as if it was heading to overtime, Little Falls junior Marissa Virnig connected off of an assist from freshman Chelsea Moran with only two seconds to play, giving the Flyers a thrilling 4-3 win.
“The entire team fought through a tough second half and worked until the very end to earn the go ahead goal with two seconds left in the game,” Little Falls head coach Marc Fritz said. “(We) showed great growth from last year.”
Senior Kirsten Welinski opened the scoring 7:10 into the match off of an assist from senior Katie Yorek, with freshman Kia Friel and sophomore Jordan Schuett also scoring to give the Flyers a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Freshman Lauren Thielman made 14 saves to earn the win in goal.
