Sobieski, Lastrup and Avon were all done in at the final weekend of the Class C state amateur baseball tournament for the second year in a row, falling in the round of 16 held in Delano and Maple Lake, Saturday.

Sartell 2, Sobieski 1

It was a clash of two of the premier aces in the tournament, as Sobieski’s Tyler Jendro squared off against Sartell’s David Deminsky.

After falling behind right away in the first, Sobieski put together multiple chances to tie the score late, but ended up falling 2-1 to the eventual state champion.

Jendro went the distance on the mound, holding Sartell to one earned run and striking out nine.

Sobieski scored its lone run in the bottom of the eighth when Jon Cezch singled home Beau Hanowski, but the Skis left the tying run in scoring position in each of their final two at bats.

Fairmont 6, Lastrup 2

Lastrup carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, but Fairmont scored the game’s final six runs to advance with a 6-2 win.

Dan Saehr and Rick Schlieman each had multi-hit games for the Lakers, with Reggie Litke adding a double, RBI and run scored.

Belle Plaine 6, Avon 3

After posting back-to-back shutouts to open the tournament, the Avon pitching staff was stung for six quick runs in a 6-3 defeat to eventual runner-up Belle Plaine.

Rick Hendrickson and Luke Manthe each collected two hits and scored for Avon.
