obit---elnora-virnigElnora A. Virnig, a resident of Long Prairie, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Long Prairie, with the Rev. Kenneth Reideman officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Long Prairie.
Elnora Agnes Meier was born July 19, 1931, in Badger, the daughter of Martin and Anne (Lins) Meier. She grew up on a farm near Badger and attended school there. Elnora was an active “farm girl,” even painting the peak of the barn. She received her teaching certificate at the Thief River Falls Community College. She married Creston Peterson in 1954, they later divorced. She married Urban Virnig, Oct. 19, 1984. They made their home in Long Prairie, where Elnora was very active at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and its Adoration Chapel. She was an excellent gardener and enjoyed crocheting, but most of all, she put God, her children, and grandchildren first and felt they were the most important gifts she received in this life.
Elnora is survived by her children, Douglas (Lisa) Peterson of Circle Pines, Dianne (Greg) Peters of Burtrum, Dawn (Kevin) Nokels of Omaha, Neb., and Denise (Tim) Majerus of Brainerd; six granddaughters, Emily Saehr, Christine Peters, Addison and Lydia Nokels, and Holly and Tomi Rae Majerus, and a sister, Theresa Novacek of Greenbush, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Urban in 1989; sister, Christene Danielson; brother James Meier; and three infant brothers.
