Rod Grams, former U.S. Senator, in hospice care

Rod Grams, who owns Falls Radio in Little Falls with his wife, Chris, and is a former U.S. Senator, has entered hospice. In April 2012, Grams was diagnosed with cancer, and is in Stage 4 of the disease.

Grams, 65, served in the U.S. Senate from 1995 – 2001. The Republican lost his chance at re-election to Democrat Mark Dayton.

Grams worked as lead news anchor for KMSP-TV in the Metro area for nearly 10 years, before unseating the incumbent Democratic Gerry Sikorski in the 6th Congressional District in 1992. He was elected to the Senate two years later.

In 2006, Grams lost in a run against U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar in the 8th Congressional District.

Recently Grams served as a co-chairman for Republican Mike McFadden, who is seeking to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken next year.

Rod and Chris live in Crown.
