Little Falls held three opponents to just a pair of goals as it completed an unbeaten week, running its record to 5-2-1 on the year.
Virnig, Moran score as LF shuts out Becker 2-0
Sparked by goals from junior Marissa Virnig and freshman Chelsea Moran, Little Falls earned a 2-0 win at Becker in Tuesday’s Granite Ridge Conference match.
Virnig scored in the 25th minute of the first half, with Moran sealing the win with three minutes remaining off of an assist by senior Katie Yorek on a set play on a free kick.
Freshman Lauren Thielman recorded four saves in goal for the shutout, aided by 11 intercepts and four steals by senior defender Rachelle LeBlanc and eight intercepts by junior Katelyn Staab.
Flyers offense peppers Crookston in 3-1 win
Little Falls was relentless offensively, tallying 22 shots, including a dozen on goal, in a 3-1 victory at Crookston, Sept. 14.
The Flyers got off to a quick start, as Yorek netted a penalty kick in the 19th minute, with junior Alicia Gapinski tapping in a score off of a corner 10 minutes later.
Crookston cut the gap in half five minutes out of the break, but sophomore Ellie Riitters provided the final margin on a hard drive with 16:17 to play.
Junior keeper Scottijo Meyer earned the win in goal.
LF, Zimmerman play to tie
Zimmerman netted its lone goal with seven minutes remaining to gain a 1-1 tie with host Little Falls, Sept. 12.
Yorek scored the Flyers’ only goal in the 35th minute on a direct kick.
