Pierz overcame a slow start to overwhelm visiting Foley 25-22, 25-17, 25-16 in non-conference action, Tuesday.
The Pioneers trailed by scores of 14-7 and 20-14 in the first set before taking 11 of the final 13 points, then was barely threatened in the final two sets.
Senior Bridget Bednar led the Pierz attack with 18 kills, followed by senior Tiara Hopkins and junior Raychel Virnig with seven apiece, junior Kayla Carter with five and senior Paige Reardon with two.
Junior Jessica Hawks passed out 31 set assists and senior Brittany Smieja and freshman Leah Fuhrman each chipped in a pair of service aces.
Pierz also swept past host Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW), Sept. 12, earning a 25-21, 25-23, 25-12 victory.
Bednar delivered 12 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks and Carter had six kills on the night, with Hawks contributing 25 set assists and four service aces.
LF, Pierz and Huskers all win match at SRR tourney
Little Falls, Pierz and Holdingford each won a match at the Sauk Rapids-Rice (SRR) tournament, Sept. 14, with Little Falls topping Holdingford in head-to-head play.
Following a narrow 26-24, 25-23 defeat to St. Cloud Cathedral, the Flyers came back to clip Holdingford 22-25, 25-23, 15-13 before falling 25-19, 25-8 to Mora to close the day.
The Huskers also fell to Dassel-Cokato (25-22, 25-14) and Annandale (28-26, 25-23) while defeating Kimball Area 25-15, 9-25, 15-13.
Pierz swept Annandale to open the tournament before falling to Rocori, Sauk Centre and Sauk Rapids-Rice.
Seniors Jennifer Ronning and Sierra Virnig each had 15 kills and junior Kendra Pohlman added 12 to lead Little Falls offensively, with sophomore Melanie Dorn recording 34 set assists and junior Kaitlin Hanson contributing 10.
Huskers take set from No. 6 BBE, fall to Albany
Host Holdingford won a marathon third set to keep the match alive, but Class A’s sixth-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) bounced back to close the match in four, Thursday, winning 25-11, 25-13, 28-30, 25-15.
Holdingford also dropped a tight home match to nearby rival Albany, Monday, falling 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.
Sophomore Summer Storm had 11 kills and senior Anna Warzecha had 17 set assists for the Huskers.
