Benedict R. Skajewski, a resident of Sauk Rapids, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Sept. 27, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Morrill, with the Rev. Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery.
Ben was born March 24, 1926, in Alberta Township, Benton County, to Edward and Plautilla (Tkaczik) Skajewski. He served his country in the United States Army for two years during World War II and received a purple heart. Ben married Lucille Kujawa, Sept. 28, 1948, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Morrill. He farmed for 32 years retiring in 1978. Ben was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Morrill, Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992 and the Gilman Knights of Columbus Council 9261. He enjoyed listening to Minnesota Twins baseball and old time music, talking about farming, fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ben always took interest in what others were doing and his faith was very important to him.
Survivors include his children, Wayne (Linda) of Foley, Alan (Danielle) of Royalton, Dale (Terri) of Royalton, RoseAnn (Alex) Walcheski of Foley, Mary (John)Walcheski of Royalton and Carol (Dale) Stewart of Foley; brothers and sisters, Jack (Marla) Michaels of Pierz, Willie (Chris Wilebski) Skajewski of Blaine, Betty (Joe) Landowski of Waite Park, Teresa Novak of Foley and Bernadette Novak of Sauk Rapids; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; infant son, Robert; daughter, Beverly Kosloski; grandson, Brent Skajewski; brothers, Norbert, Jerome and Al; and sister, Ann Juetten.
