Pierz won three of five matches, including a rematch with St. Cloud Cathedral, to take third place at its home tournament, Saturday, while Holdingford earned fifth.
Pierz opened the day with a dominant 25-10, 25-9 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in pool play, then bounced back from a 25-15, 25-22 loss to St. Cloud Cathedral to top Swanville 25-12, 25-15.
Pierz fell 25-11, 25-4 to Class A’s sixth-ranked Mabel-Canton in bracket play before bouncing back to defeat Cathedral 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 in the third-place match.
Bednar posted 49 kills on the day, while Hawks put on an impressive serving display, delivering 28 aces to go with 72 set assists.
Junior Raychel Virnig was the next leading hitter with 17 kills, followed by Hopkins with 15 and junior Kayla Carter with nine.
Holdingford edged past Floodwood 25-22, 25-23 as it went 1-2 in pool play, then defeated Swanville 25-19, 25-11 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 25-21, 21-25, 15-4 in the consolation bracket.
Squaring off against four Class AA opponents, Swanville went 1-4 at the tournament, ending the day with a 26-24, 25-15 victory over Floodwood.
Senior Danielle Sutton was the top hitter in the tournament for the Bulldogs, planting 15 kills, with senior Nikki Primus and junior Danica Hanson hitting 14 apiece.
Senior Amanda Rieffer followed with 10 kills and sophomore Haileigh Sales collected nine kills, 34 set assists and 24 digs.
