Kristiansen sentenced to 21 months for check forgery

Shane Martin Kristiansen, 35, Foley, was sentenced to 21 months in prison Monday in Morrison County District Court in Little Falls. Kristiansen pleaded guilty to felony check forgery and was sentenced by Judge William Cashman.

The case stems from a Feb. 27 incident, when Kristiansen cashed a check at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Pierz. Kristiansen admitted he stole a check from a mailbox. The check was made out to Verizon.

Kristiansen admitted altering the check and replacing “Verizon” with a fictitious name. Kristiansen presented the altered check and a false ID to the bank. Kristiansen was ordered to pay the bank restitution in the amount of $321.15. Judge Cashman ordered the restitution should be paid out of any prison earnings.
