Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) scored three times in the fourth quarter, including twice in the final five minutes, to rally past visiting Pierz 20-13, Saturday.

The Pioneers got on the board early, as senior Nathan Athman picked up where he left off after last week’s six-touchdown performance with a 1-yard scoring plunge to make it 7-0.

That score held all the way into the fourth quarter, when BBE finally got on the board with a 15-yard touchdown pass with 10:07 remaining.

However, the Jaguars missed the ensuing extra point, allowing the Pioneers to hold onto the lead at 7-6.

Pierz then answered less than two minutes later with a score of its own, as junior Robbie Skiba broke free on a 42-yard touchdown scamper in his first game back in action since the season opener returning from injury.

BBE wouldn’t relent, though, tying the game up at 13-13 with 4:55 left, then taking advantage of a short field set up by an interception to score the go-ahead touchdown with 1:39 remaining.

Senior Tyler Millner was the top rusher for the Pioneers with 61 yards, followed closely by Athman with 55 and Skiba with 48.

Defensively, senior Riley Smude made five solo tackles and eight assists, with Skiba adding five solo tackles and five assists and Athman making four solo tackles and five assists.

Millner also intercepted a pass.

The game was originally scheduled to take place Friday, but was postponed due to lightning.
