Swanville High School has named juniors Danica Hanson, the daughter of Dan Hanson and Tyler Evans, son of Kevin and Mary Evans, as its September Athletes of the Month.
In nominating Evans, Upsala Swanville Area (USA) football coach Jay Loven said, “Tyler has stepped into the quarterback role this year after the graduation of two-year starter Eric Frieler.”
He said during September, Evans was 21/30 (70 percent), for 307 yards with six touchdowns passing, and 256 yards and four touchdowns rushing.
“Tyler has developed into a great leader for the USA Patriot football team, and continues to grow into the role of quarterback,” said Loven.
Volleyball coach Kerie Thoma said Hanson was a hardworking individual and a strong leader on the court.
“Danica is our starting middle hitter and shares a setter’s role as well,” said Thoma. “As a middle hitter for our Bulldog varsity volleyball team, she has accumulated, just in the month of September, 95 kills, 108 assists, 140 digs, 20 serving aces, and 41 blocks.”
Thoma said Hanson was the most versatile athlete the team had.
“She is able to set, hit, serve, play any position along the net as well as any position in the back row. She has a strong energy about her too when she is out on the court,” said Thoma. “We have had great chemistry on the court this season and a lot of it starts with her. Danica is a great role model and has a wonderful attitude.”
